Between 1899-1902 Columbia had a conflict between the two major parties called the Conservative and Liberal party. The Liberal party ran a coffee plantation and the Conservative party sufferd from lack of pecos. They were fighting for their personal political power. The 3 main causes of the conflict in Columbia were to maintain ranks, economic, and social dominence. The conflict resulted in between 60,000 and 130,000 deaths, lots of damage and the economy was ruined. The conflict affected Germany and Italy.
In July 1899, The Liberals attempted a revolution, the War of a Thousand Days. The Conservatives casted their alligance with the Nationalists, Peace and War factions of the PL, but eventually their rebillion weakend. In December 1899, the Liberals had a victory but were soon outnumbered months later at, Palonegro and were defeted by the Conservatives. The Liberals ended up changing their amy stratergy to guriella warfare which turned into a huge conflict for 2 years.
